Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, better known by her stage name Ayra Star, is a GRAMMY-nominated singer who claims Rihanna is her all-time favorite musician.

I wrote “Like This” when I was 15 – I had nothing to do with writing that song. This shows you what my mentality was like at a young age.

When asked how her mother redirected her passion from modeling to music, the Mavins recording act said: “I wanted to model because everyone told me I couldn’t do it, like I wasn’t tall enough. I’m not, and I said to them, “Look at me.” And I ended up doing it. It is because of him that I am here now. It’s because of that 16-year-old girl who didn’t give up and kept moving forward.

I used to do covers [songs] on Instagram. My mother and her friends used to force me to cover up. I uploaded a cover to Instagram – I didn’t even like the video. But something kept telling me to post it and I did. About 6 hours later, [Marvin Records CEO] Don Jazzy arrived. Three days later, they signed me.

He said that it took only three days to seal the deal.
